The visioning team is beginning to study a book written by Max Lacado called, Facing Your Giants.  It begins with a look at David, the shepherd boy, going out to battle Goliath, the giant.  Now keep in mind that Goliath was over nine feet tall.  His life had been spent training to intimidate and defeat anyone who got in his way.

Then we have David, a ruddy and handsome young shepherd boy. I’ve always been amazed at how calm and confident David was in his encounter with Goliath.  Personally, I would have been filled with worry.  What about you?  Do you worry?  Are you the type person who worries when you have nothing to worry about?

Let me share this story I just read about worry.  It goes like this………

“I have a mountain of credit card debt,” one man told another.  “I’ve lost my job, my car is being repossessed, and our house is in foreclosure, but I’m not worried about it.”
“Not worried about it!” exclaimed his friend.  “No, I’ve hired a professional worrier.  He does all my worrying for me, and that way I don’t have to think about it.”
“That’s fantastic.  How much does your professional worrier charge for this services?”  “Fifty thousand dollars a year,” replied the first man.  “Fifty thousand dollars a year?  Where are you going to get that kind of money?”  “I don’t know,” came the reply.  “That’s his worry.”

I don’t believe that David had a professional worrier.  However, maybe he did.  The scriptures in 1 Peter 5: 7 says:

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

I know that many of us carry a lot of worries as we journey through this year.  Could it be that we, like David, need to give our worries to God.  Surely, the victory for David was to totally trust in God as he went forth to face his giant.  What’s your focus as you face the giant in your life?

Listen to the following verse from Psalm 68, which is a Psalm by David.

“Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens.”
Psalm 68: 19

Think about it!
